Love and Music With The Lowdown Stompers

September 30th, 2018    Posted in Uncategorized

Everyone weekend we load up and hit the road to play at fabulous weddings all over New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Vermont, Massachusetts and beyond, celebrating not only the love shared between two people but also the love from their family and friends.  We we sing and we play our favorite songs,  working hard to ensure our energy on stage travels into the crowd and matches the love felt for our Bride and Groom and their friends and family. There really isn’t a better way to spend our Saturday…

We had a great week full of fun performances. Sunday the 22nd saw us at Kips Castle in New Jersey playing for a beautiful “Jazz On The Lawn” themed wedding reception. The weather was PERFECT, and the friends any family of our bride and groom came out to have a good time!

Tuesday brought us to the Hearthstone Care Center in Palisades, NY for the opening of their new remembrance garden. This was such a fun performance! Many of the residents knew the lyrics to our tunes and many got up and danced like they were kids again. What a treat to remind people of the days of their youth.

Friday night found us in Mamaroneck, NY at the Mamaroneck Yacht Club playing for a 30th year Wedding Anniversary. The views of the Hudson were amazing, and again, the weather was perfect.

Saturday saw us heading down to Wallingford, Penslyvania. We love going on the road and playing in new places. This day found us playing at a wedding recception housed in the breath-taking Wallingford Art Center. What a venue! Our bride and groom and their friends and family had a great time and kept the dance floor PACKED for 3 hours. There energy was incredible!

So yea, they say a picture is a picture says a thousand words, right? Check out the little collage above from this week’s performances.

Have a great week, and we hope to see you at a performance soon!

Birthday Party In East Village

September 20th, 2018    Posted in Uncategorized

This past Saturday, The Stompers had the good fortune to play an intimate rooftop birthday gathering in the ultra posh East Village. Under ominious skies, the rain held off and a good time was had by all! Thanks again to the lovely birthday ladies for having us out! Cheers!

The”Wedding Band Syndrome”

September 14th, 2018    Posted in Uncategorized

Depending on your maturity (i.e. how old you are), you’ve more than likely been to a couple of weddings. To me, weddings are two-fold celebrations.

  • I get to see my friends unite and become one
  • I get to see my old friends and have a GREAT night.

Now, how many of those weddings that you’ve been to had something that didn’t go right. Probably more than a few . . . How many of them had music? A D.J.? How about a bad band?

Can we all agree that entertaining, live music that sounds great is the best kind of wedding music? I thought so!

We’ve all seen these typical wedding bands play at our friends events. They look like they just rolled out of bed into a wrinkled tuxedo, and they sound like disgruntled jazz musicians fed up with an industry that won’t let them “play what they feel, man”.

Dismantling the “NYC wedding band syndrome” was one of The Stompers’ main goals when we formed. You see, we like performing for people. Better yet, we like being apart of a couples and their closest friends and families special day. We feed off the positive energy on the dance floor and we put it back into our music because we like to make people happy. It’s a simple thing really!

So, if you’re looking for the atypical NYC wedding jazz band experience, give The Lowdown Stompers a try. You’re not going to be disappointed.

Doing What You Love and Loving What You Do

September 13th, 2018    Posted in Uncategorized

Mike here, bandleader for The Stompers.

When I was a kid, my father, who was and is a blue collar, “working man” kind of a fellow, told me that he had only one wish for me as I grew up – he wished for me to find something that I loved and turn it into my occupation. You see, he was the type of guy that put in 60 hours a week regularly at a job that he didn’t particularly like. However, he never missed a baseball game, school band concert, etc. He was and is the stereotypical Super-Dad.

Now that I’m “grown”, I look at where I’m at and I realize that his words way back when pushed me to keep at this dream of making music for people. Now that I’m in a comfortable place, regularly performing for enthusiastic audiences, I can’t help but thank him for his valuable insight.

Playing jazz music for a living in NYC is a dream come true. Whether it be a NYC wedding, a birthday party in the East Village or an Anniversary Party in Sleepy Hollow, I count my blessings that I’m asked to perform during someone’s special day. For The Lowdown Stompers, that’s what it’s all about – making people’s special days even greater.

. . . “there are two kinds of music, the good kind, and the bad kind. I play the good kind.”

Yea you did Pops.

There’s something about the music from the 1920’s and 1930’s – a sense of vitality and wonderment that people often attempt to duplicate in modern music, but seldom ever achieve. What is it about these tunes? Why do they make us dance, tap our toes and snap our fingers? How does this music get even the most stubborn of dance partners out on the dance floor? The answer is simple really. Louis Armstrong knew it way back in the 30’s.

There’s two kinds of music, the good kind, and the bad.

We play the good music too.

The Stompers at The Fritz!

June 16th, 2018    Posted in Uncategorized

We had the great pleasure of entertaining a select lucky few in Allentown, PA last week at the luxurious Vault 634 – a newly renovated wedding venue. In it’s former life, Vault 634 was the Lehigh Valley Trust Building, home of the Lehigh Valley Trust Company. Complete with 3 massive bank vaults, the Lehigh Valley Trust company played a pivotal role in Allentown’s economic boom in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

Nowadays, the space has been outfitted to be an absolutely stunning wedding venue.

This exceptional venue also holds a special little secret in it’s basement – a fully operational speakeasy called The Fritz, which is where we come in! The lovely people at Vault 634 asked us to drive down and play their grand opening, which we happily said yes to!

Below are a couple pics from the night. Thanks for reading!
