About the Band
The Lowdown Stompers were formed in the fall of 2014, shortly after bandleader Mike Sailors relocated to New York City from Austin, Texas. Our first performances were in the Upper West Side at the now closed Lura’s, which was at 106th and Columbus avenue. The band played there twice a week for 6 months until they landed their first big gig – performing as the house band at Sleep No More – an immensely popular Broadway show that still runs today. The Stompers performed 7 nights a week as “The Bargarran Boys” in Sleep No More’s 6th floor restaurant, The Heath.
The Bargarran Boys at Sleep No More
The Sleep No More engagement allowed the Stompers the unique experience of performing nightly, which really honed the bands style and sound. We take this level of showmanship and musicianship with us to every event we play.
Since leaving Sleep No More in 2016, we’ve shifted our focus to providing jazz music for weddings and other engagements throughout the Tri-State area as well as across the US. We’ve played over 500 weddings at this point – experience that just can’t be bought in this day and age.
Parading Down Wall Street
Nowadays the band performs all over the country. Bandleader Mike Sailors splits his time between New York City, and Austin Texas, where he is a visiting professor at The University of Texas in Austin. We play weddings all throughout Austin, the Hill Country, Texas, and New York and the entire New England Area.
